A lot has happened to our club recently. Asseco Arka, no longer under Przemyslaw Frasunkiewicz, is now led by a 31-years old Piotr Blechacz and this Sunday will go to take on GTK Gliwice.
The beginning of the week saw a lot of changes happen. After a sizable loss against WKS Slask Wroclaw, coach Przemyslaw Frasunkiewicz parted ways. Piotr Blechacz took over, and he will now face his first match as the head coach. Previously the young coach has worked with the Polish national team under Mike Taylor and led training with the leading EBL players.
Our opponents have also undergone changes. Four players have left since the beginning of the season. Monday saw Josh Perkins leave Poland for the Serbian Partizan Belgrad. A heavy loss, as the US player delivered 13.8 points and 6.6 assists per game. Malcolm Rhett and Martin Krampelj have also left, as did the Polish Mateusz Szlachetka who moved to Wroclaw. Two Americans were brought to compensate - William "Shaquill" Goodwin and Tyler Person. Both will arrive at week's end and their appearances remains unknown.
The Germany coach Matthias Zollner has one of the most universal talents at his disposal - Jordon Varnado (19.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.1 steals, 1.1 blocks). The US player can deliver pretty much everything - 2 pointers, 3 pointers, steals, rebounds, blocks and hard defense. He is the main focus of Gliwice team. An average of half an hour per match spends Terry Henderson (13.6 points, 4.3 rebounds), the best three point-thrower at GTK disposal. Playmaking is handled by Shannon Bogues (11.1 points, 3 assists). As for the Polish, the most impressive is the 38-years old Szymon Szewczyk (10.4 points, 7 rebounds), although Daniel Golebiowski (9.5 points, 3.3 rebounds) is not far behind, as are Szymon Szymanski and Aleksander Wisniewski.
Przemyslaw Zolnierewicz and Mikolaj Witlinski will not take part in the match. "Willy" will go to Gliwice, but he has not yet fully recovered. He may be back for the match against King Szczecin on the 17th of January.
How will our team fare under the eye of a new coach? The match will take place this Sunday (10th of January) at 15:30. The match will be available for viewing on Emocje TV.
