Asseco Arka have had a week to regenerate and relax after the successful match in Dabrowa Gornicza. Will it be enough to break the gingerbread men of Toruń?
Last week coach Piotr Blechacz and his team managed an important victory in an away match against MKS Dabrowa Gornicza. Thanks to the great disposition of Karlo Vragovic and points delivered by Igor Wadowski, we triumphed 80:78. It was enough to jump ahead of Radom and Starogard Gdanski. And although 8 wins is enough to keep us in the League, we do not mean to rest just yet. Time for another match which will decide whether we will stay in the Energa Basket Liga - against a perfect enemy for that task.
Why? As it turns out, Toruń is having a lot of troubles this season. Out of all 13 away matches, the team was not able to secure a single win. The best two examples can be seen in the two previous matches against Stargard (79:86) and Wloclawek (75:77). In both cases the team created a big lead - which ultimately was squandered each time. Despite that, Polski Cukier is still a hard nut to crack, a fast team which is way ahead in the race towards the playoffs.
Gdynia will have a hard time keeping away the US shooter Donovan Jackson (17.4 points, 4.2 assists, 42% in 3-pointers), who only once came away from a match with a single digit score. In terms of statistics, Damian Kulig (16.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.4 assists) and Aaron Cel (12.9 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.3 steals). The offensive is in the hands of a US player with a Hungarian passport - Obie Trotter (11.4 points, 5 assists, 2 steals) who is the runner up in terms of most steals in the league. Bartosz Diduszko (9.8 points, 3.7 rebounds) and Keyshawn Woods (10.7 points, 2.8 assists) are performing quite well this season as well. A reserve frontcourt comes in the form of Carlton Bragg (6.6 points, 2.8 rebounds). The Croatian Marko Ramljak is a bit of an enigma, as he joined the team midway through January and played only twice. Younger brother of Marko is Ivan Ramljak, who plays for Slask Wroclaw. The match against Polski Cukier will be the final one before the Suzuki Polish Cup in Lublin. In the 1/4 finals we will face off against the Polish Champion - Enea Zastal BC Zielona Gora.
The match will be available for viewing on Sunday, 7th of February at 19:30 on Emocje TV. We are Asseco!
